A2P 10DLC stands for Application-to-Person 10-digit long code. It’s a system used in the United States that enables businesses to send Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers.
In order to utilise our Real Connect phone number services to it’s full capabilities, we need you to register for a A2P 10DLC campaign. The good news is, this is an extremely simple process and can be done right inside your account, the bad news is, as of the time of writing this article, June 2023, there is an 8-10 week waiting list. Now, this doesn’t mean your phone won’t work, but if we don’t get you registered, we risk that happening in future.
Before we get you registered, let’s understand a little more around A2P. A2P 10DLC was implemented by major US carriers such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon in 2021, aimed at providing businesses with a reliable, secure, and stable solution for bulk text messaging to their customers, while also protecting consumers from unsolicited messages.
Before A2P 10DLC, long code messaging was typically person-to-person (P2P), designed for communication among family and friends. However, with the new A2P 10DLC system, businesses can now send high-volume messages to customers from a designated 10-digit phone number. The service is specifically designed for businesses that need to send messages to their customers either one-on-one or in bulk through local long codes, making it ideal for localized or in-store businesses. It’s utilized for various purposes including events, security and account notifications, customer service interactions, marketing communications, and authentication messages.
To use A2P messaging, businesses must first complete two steps: Brand Registration and Campaign Registration. Brand Registration involves identifying your organization by submitting general and business information to the carrier networks you use. Campaign Registration comes after registering your brand, whereby The Campaign Registry (TCR) gives your business a trust score. This score, alongside your campaign type, determines your messaging throughput. Each campaign must also have a messaging use case that represents the type of text messages you intend to send to your customers.
A2P 10DLC provides several benefits for businesses. These include higher throughput, enabling organizations to send more messages faster, dedicated lines that allow businesses to own a designated line, and voice-enablement, which means 10DLC numbers can support voice calls in addition to messaging. It also provides better accountability, as each designated number is directly linked to a specific company, allowing carriers to identify which company and what messages violate terms if any issues arise. This ensures businesses that follow the regulations remain safe.
In the context of the real estate industry, A2P 10DLC could be a game changer. It allows real estate businesses to send high-volume messages to their clients, which is key for effective communication, marketing, and customer service. For instance, they can send property alerts, appointment reminders, or updates on the property market to a large number of clients quickly and efficiently. It also opens up opportunities for voice-enabled services, allowing agents to call clients from the same number used for messaging. Moreover, it can improve accountability and professionalism, as each real estate business has its own designated number, reducing the risk of messages being marked as spam and enhancing customer trust.
In conclusion, A2P 10DLC represents an important advancement in business communication. It not only allows real estate businesses to improve their communication with customers, but also enhances the overall customer experience through reliable and secure communication channels.
