2023 Design Trends Wrapped in Saran Wrap and Gifted to the World of Property
•
Trend 1: Curved Furniture – But Not Because the Room is Spinning
In 2023, homeowners and designers went ’round the bend for curved furniture. These pieces soften harsh architectural lines and invite organic flow more effectively than a meditation seminar with a yoga grandmaster.

Trend 2: Jungle-Themed Prints – Urban Jungle Minus the Traffic Jams and Horn Honking
Tarzan could find a second home in 2023 interiors. Leafy, jungle-themed prints splashed over upholstery and wallpaper are in. Such a great way to bring nature indoors without the creepy crawlies or allergies.
•
Trend 3: Post-Covid Minimalism – Everybody Kondo-ing Their Lives
Post-pandemic, everyone decided they wanted to see more of their floors and fewer of their bric-a-brac. The KonMari method reigned supreme as minimalism became the interior design mantra for 2023.

Trend 4: Multi-Functional Spaces – Room Schizophrenia at Its Best!
Cupboards taking calls? Kitchens doing squats? Bedrooms hosting Zoom meetings? With the continuation of work-from-home situations, rooms had to wear more hats than a Jack-of-all-trades in a haberdashery. Homes suddenly sprouted multi-purpose areas wherever space allowed.

Trend 5: Farmhouse Aesthetics – Bringing the Barn Home
It seems designers and homeowners developed a nostalgia for farm concepts without the actual manure and early morning rooster calls. Distressed wood, muted tones, and rustic charm were hot in 2023, giving homes a cozy farm-to-lounge feel.
So here’s my hot take. As a hunky, child-friendly, dashing, and mysterious being that I am, the year 2023 was a bit of a roller coaster of design trends for all the property-buffs out there. The return to nature – curved furniture (even though it may make you feel like you’re on the high seas), jungle prints (which might lead you to believe that there’s a monkey hanging about), and farmhouse aesthetics (that might make you want to cluck like a chicken) – signals a wholesome earthy retreat from our techno-lives. The dream of multi-functional spaces continues the trend of getting full value for every available corner. (Seriously, if any of the walls start sending me emails, I’m going to freak out.) Lastly, the minimalistic angle keeps our hoarding tendencies in check – too much stuff can lead to a crisis of ‘Where’s Waldo?’ or in this case, ‘Where’s the Remote?’.
All in all, this design journey of 2023 was like a bag of popcorns: some parts fluffy, some parts crunchy, and a few irritating un-popped kernels of trends that just didn’t sit right. But hey, that’s showbiz… or in this case, ‘house-biz’.
